I love Matchbook, but I'm unfortunately behind on issues. I came across a screenshot from one of their issues with 50 things every Matchbook Girl should own. 

I think pretty much every woman should just have a lot of these items, even if it's in a different style.

Comic Book Ties

I don't wear bow ties, but I still want these. My culture blog is named The Daily Planet because that's the newspaper where Clark Kent worked and I carry a Spider-Man lunch box to work with my almost every day. Batman was really my first superhero love. And I'm talking old school Gotham City Batman and not this new age Dick Grayson stuff.

Style Crush: Grace Kelly

Actress Grace Kelly, or Princess Grace as she was called after marrying the Prince of Monaco, is always shown in gorgeous dresses and dripping in diamonds or pearls. This natural photo of her in menswear shows that she didn't need those things to be beautiful. I love how her inner beauty is really shining through.

Plus, I really like to see women in menswear.

You Know You Want Lanvin

Just a joke, of course.

I found that cute photo on Tumblr. But I've been drooling over the real ads for a while. They're actually stills from a video where they made the models dance to Pitbull's I Know You Want Me. The models definitely aren't the best dancers, but it has to be really hard model while doing choreography. The dance moves are actually from the game Dance Central (don't ask me how I know that). I love how Lanvin mixed some fun into their campaign. More brands should do the same.

Some of you may be thinking: didn't you post a video with models earlier this week? I guess I'm just obsessed with the idea of models having a good time at work. After watching a documentary entitled Picture Me, I probably just need to be persuaded their entire career isn't sad.

I had to post this adorable photo of Nicki taken during NYFW.

I don't think my love for Nicki or the fact that I covet Spirit Hoods (FYI: The Feather Fashion Director says they're cool people to work with.) will surprise anyone who reads this blog regularly. But how much I want that Barbie necklace is new information to you.

How to Wear Jeans

I love My Closet in Sketches. Her drawings have so much personality. This is possibly my favorite sketch of hers because it's really taught me something. It should be required reading for every girl who owns at least one pair of skinny jeans and a pair of shoes.

Fashion Envy: Lauren Bacall in "How to Marry a Millionaire"

When I have what Holly Golightly would call "the means reds," I watch How to Marry a Millionaire. Lauren Bacall look absolutely flawless in the film, especially the wedding scene. I also included some screenshots with Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe, who were also dressed to kill.

Going Back-to-School in Style

Back-to-school when I was growing up meant new clothes and new school supplies. In college, I just bought clothes at all times of the year, which I think gave me more flexibility. Instead of having specific outfits that I bought just for that day, I had to work a little harder to create a new look with pieces people had seen before and a couple they hadn't.

New York Style

We're sending out story assignments for Feather today, we just announced our exciting new project and I have work, so I will be super busy all day, but I wanted to blog about this totally outdated feature StyleCaster did in February on the 50 Most Stylish New Yorkers. Those photos of Olivia I posted earlier brought back memories of this. I personally love StyleCaster and I've enjoyed watching it evolve over the past year or so.

These photos are very well done. It's like a yearbook, but everyone came in their best outfit on a good hair day. If I had the time, I'd go through why I love every one of them, but no one would read a post that's a mile long and it would take hours. Instead I'm posted my favorites with the exception of Olivia because I don't want this blog to seem like a huge Olivia Palermo love fest.

Style Crush: Olivia Palermo

I was doing the online equivalent of window shopping on the ASOS website when I randomly remembered these photos of Olivia Palermo from their August 2010 online catalog/magazine. I actually bought a cute satchel featured in that issue.

While I didn't really care for her attitude on The City and how she handled herself at Elle sometimes, I can't deny that she's a huge style icon. Her style is what I hope to one day achieve because her clothing always seems comfortable without being too large or making her look like someone's grandmother. If I'm being honest, I fall in both of those negative categories way too often.

The photos were shot in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. It's definitely on my list of places in Brooklyn to live someday (hopefully really soon).

Muppet Spirit Hoods & Nail Polish? OK!

I was just browsing Refinery29 when I came across the cutest thing ever! Spirit Hoods is making Muppet-themed hoods! Sorry for all the exclamation marks, but I'm elated. There are hoods for fans of Miss Piggy, Kermit, Gonzo and Animal! The hoods coincide with the huge public relations push they're making for the upcoming film co-starring Jason Segal and Amy Adams.

The craziest thing about seeing the Spirit Hoods this afternoon is that I received an email from the Entertainment Editor of Feather this morning about Muppet OPI nail polish she spotted on Racked.com. The polish will be a part of their holiday collection.

Can you guess which one is called Fresh Frog of Bel-Air?

 It's obvious Disney is hoping this will relaunch the franchise after buying the characters in 2004 and basically letting them collect dust in some warehouse or something before they decided on this film. The polish will be priced at $8.50. I haven't seen the hoods up on the site yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to take out a loan to afford them.

It's no secret that I'm love with The Muppets, but I'm definitely not the only twenty-something who still loves them. One of my children's literature professors showed a clip of Muppet Treasure Island in class after we read Treasure Island and the entire class begged her to play another clip.

Guess what? The hoods aren't just for kids!

Nicki Minaj in Glamour

Orange & Blue! Go Gators!

Excuse me while I freak out over these photos of Nicki from Glamour. Yes, I'm a big Nicki fan and I saw her in concert early in the summer. I love these images because they show different sides of her personality. If she wore something like these to the VMAs on Sunday, she would have stayed true to herself and still rocked the black carpet. But anyone who watched the show knows how horribly wrong her outfit choice was. No matter what she wears Nicki is still my favorite female rapper of all time.

FYI: That last line was in my Kanye voice.

Friday Faves

I randomly ran across this new OK Go version of The Muppets theme song this afternoon and it made my year! I'm a huge Muppets fan and I wish they would bring the show back. Although I shared Beyonce's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody as a fave last Friday, my most beloved cover will always be the one by The Muppets. If OK Go sounds familiar, it's because they did a viral video a few years ago with some insane treadmill choreography.

I meant to blog more this week, but it's hard finding balance right now because I haven't gotten into a grove yet since this is our first editing cycle at Feather. It's going so great, though, and I couldn't be happier with where we're headed. Other than my awesome magazine, I also like:

I've become an insanely huge fan of Kimbra in
the past week and this is my favorite song I've
heard so far.

Last week, it was all about Camelot, but I've now moved on to The Tudors. I somehow
went through almost four seasons in a little over a week, but it's so good and I usually
watch it while working on magazine stuff. Jane is my favorite wife, but I haven't seen
his sixth wife yet, so I may change my mind in the end.

Friday Faves

I started the week throwing a very small birthday dinner party for a close friend who was passing through town on her way back to New Orleans. Then, I spent Monday with another close friend at Harry Potter World. When I had free time during this week, I was designing the Feather Magazine website on half of my computer monitor and watching Camelot on the other half. Leave it to me to get addicted to a series that only has 10 episodes.
